MORE FOOD, MORE HEALTH

DEVELOPMENT IN KISUMU

CONTEXT

According to recent statistics on Kenya’s health and demographics, in Kisumu County 2% of children under 5 years are severely malnourished, 7% underweight and 18% underdeveloped, with 76% of children exclusively from breastfed without additional nutrients rich in iron. The World Health Organization has identified the increasing production and consumption of fruit and vegetables as a priority in promoting a healthy diet. However, the production and consumption of these foods are still very low in the county of Kisumu.
